Lock Picking

Lockpicking Lockpicking is a an art on unlocking a lock by analyzing its pattern. In essence, it is reverse engineering the lock pin pattern. Although Lockpicking is often a associated with criminal activities, it is an essential skill and talent that a locksmith must have.

Master Key

What is a master key? In short, a master key is a key that has a common pattern across a series of locks. A great example is in office buildings. Ever wonder how is it that the building super is not walking around with several hundred keys on their key chains? In the pin-and-tumbler design, the pins are aligned in pairs, the pins form a unique pattern.  In master key systems is that some of the pins are not in pairs, rather they have three per sequence. This design allows for two different type of keys to open such locks.

Lock Bumping

A key appropriately cut is inserted into the lock, and then the key is gently “bumped” with a mallet or a screwdriver. This forces the pins in the lock to the shear line as the key turns, and the door opens. The technique requires no special skill and is effective most of the time. This allows burglars to enter your home without any sign of forced entry. Lock bumping is a realistic threat that you should take seriously when evaluating the security of your home.

Have a locksmith modify your existing locks and deadbolts. This doesn’t make your locks immune to lock bumping, but it does make the process more difficult. This is usually more cost-effective then lock replacement.

Lock Your Deadbolt

Most burglaries and robberies are crimes of opportunity where unscrupulous individuals take advantage of the weaknesses of other. One of the weaknesses that a burglar may be able to take advantage of is forgetting to arm your deadbolt when leaving the home in the morning.   Take a few seconds when you leave, to turn around and lock the deadbolt. Even the most advanced lock can not stop a burglar if it is not properly armed or engaged.

Auto Transponder Keys

Inside every transponder key is a chip, that chip is programmed with an embedded code. When the key is turned to start the car, the car scans the transponder key to see if the code matches what’s stored in it’s computer, and if the code matches, the car starts.
The main reason for chipped keys is to prevent car theft.
